Sang Joon Kim

Sang Joon Kim is a South Korea-born animation director based in New York. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts with a major in Computer Art, he began his career as a compositor at Framestore, a renowned VFX studio in New York.

Though he initially built his expertise in the world of visual effects, his passion for 2D animation remained at the core of his creative ambitions. While working full-time in VFX, Sang Joon launched his first independent animation Sang Joon Kim project, The Wheel Turns, a labor of love that he developed on the side. The film went on to compete in numerous international film festivals and won Best Animation in the Fantasy/Horror category at the Sitges International Film Festival.

Following its success, he transitioned into directing animation full-time, bringing a distinctive artistic vision that seamlessly blends his compositing expertise with 2D animation. Through his work, Sang Joon continues to push the boundaries of visual storytelling, crafting surreal and immersive narratives that challenge perception and evoke deep emotional resonance.
